I liked the ending
kpich578 May 2013
This episode is old home week for western character actors. Lee Van Cleef, DeForest Kelly, Jim Davis and even Buck Taylor from Gunsmoke. Everybody wants the money that Jess Hardin (Jim Davis) supposedly stole and hid in the ghost town before he went to prison. The wife (Jeanne Cooper) hires Paladin to help her in case there's trouble, which of course there is because of the $80,000 dollars. Greed seems to be the overwhelming emotion for everyone. The resolution of it all I especially liked. There's a lot of shooting and maneuvering to get to Hardin so he can tell where he hid the loot. This episode is a pleasurable diversion for half an hour.

No true love unless it's love of money

Warning: Spoilers
Probably the most interesting thing about the episode is it has Deforest Kelly (Deakin) and Lee Van Cleef (Corbin) as two of the numerous badies trying to waylay Jess Harden and get $80,000 it is said he stole; he said he never took it and he was framed for it. . Even Harden's wife is just interested in finding the money that does not exist. Paladin disgusted that Harden's wife has become so selfish that he decides to make the lady's future as miserable as he can. When Harden dies, the last words uttered to his wife are "I love you." So when DeForest Kelly bursts in on the scene and asks Paladin where the money is, Paladin responds that Harden would not share that with him, he would only trust that information to his wife. Kelly agrees and although Edna Harden says her husband said nothing; he refuses to believe her. He promises he will dog her steps until she capitulates and tells him. Paladin rides off alone, knowing Edna won't ever escape Deakin.
