No felonies were committed, so it's Five-O to the rescue!

This is a particularly weak episode. Most of it is because it involves a case that a unit like Five-O should never be involved with since no felony was committed...NONE! And, without a serious crime, what's the point of the episode?! The show begins with a cranky rich dad (James Sikking) arguing with his teenage daughter about her seeing some guy. He demands she leave him and she promised she would--but she hasn't. So, he's going to send her off to boarding school. In desperation, she runs away to be with her honey-bunny and the father then reports that she's been kidnapped--though there really isn't any evidence that this has occurred. In fact, McGarrett blows up at the Governor for making Five-O get involved in some family matter--which is exactly what it turns out to be! A bunch more happens though none of it changes the basic equation and in the end, everyone goes home and the episode kind of fizzles. None one of the finest hours for the series and not a particularly compelling case.

"I resent it"

This isn't a police episode but a soap opera one and its been done before. John Marley's casting has me even thinking of his role in Love Story. Kids in love and one of them with a non-understanding parent.

Tread the King's Shadow is one of Five-O's worst episodes up to this point. We're just half way through season10 and the quality of episodes is going to get worse.

One of the best from the series

A refreshing and at times compelling departure from tracking down a drug dealer or bank robber, this episode hits home by dealing with a family issue that is much more down to earth. It likely reflects executive producer/star Jack Lord's personal feelings in its pro-native Hawaiian and pro-life points of view. Well written, acted and staged. Too bad there weren't a few more like this one during the 12-year run.

How long can Hawaii have the same governor? I'm up to season ten and still have Tarzan as the governor... Maybe eight years is possible but not ten..
