William Walker and Powys Thomas
kevinolzak9 November 2014
"Delaware Hoax" begins with the discovery of two Indian corpses that are from the friendly Delawares, blood brothers of Chingachgook (Lon Chaney). At Fort Roberts, the Mohican tries to convince Major Tilton (Earl Grey, first of two) that the Delawares would never break their peace treaty, until the major reports accusations made by Tarrytown supply store owner Benjamin Stanwell (William Walker, first of three). Hawkeye's conversation with Black Fox (Alex Denaszody, first of three) finds the tribe well aware of the dire situation and ready to make war on the white man. Working in collusion with Stanwell is Ira Johnson (Powys Thomas, first of six), a land speculator and mastermind behind a plot to usurp the Delawares' territory. A book of obscure government laws provided by Blaisdell (Glynne Morris, second of three) explains everything to Hawkeye (John Hart), who then goes undercover to ride with the gang as phony Delawares on the warpath. Outdoor shooting enhances realism, in a somewhat brutal episode. Chaney's best moment shows the difference between how white men walk, compared to how his Indian brothers do, while once again John Hart makes the pinch underwater.
