Cow named Ethel mentioned
rerunwatcher29 April 2021
There is a mention of a cow named Ethel. Of all the names in the world to choose. This has to be a sly dig at Vivian Vance who was on Lucy's two previous shows. Van Johnson is on this episode. He has on too much eye makeup in my opinion.

Same Old Tired Plot Device

Having loaned Van Johnson some cash in an emergency, Lucy tries to ask a favor in return, but Johnson claims to not know who she is.

This is another of the "celebrity double" episodes and not a very good one at that. The plot about the Texas tycoon throwing a birthday party for his cow is stupid, as is the ending with Harry reappearing at the party in snorkeling gear to make good on his word.

Lucy shows up as an Italian bombshell named Gina Linguine - a takeoff of Sophia Loren, but her funniest moments are her angry outbursts when Harry won't believe she met Van, and when she's screaming as she's being removed by his security guards.

There is a plug for YOURS, MINE AND OURS and a meta moment when Lucy says the kooky redhead was "much too young for Henry Fonda".

Van Johnson is wearing way more makeup than Lucy!
