So Bad Even Lucy Said So When They Were Rehearsing
kgraovac24 December 2023
When rich Laura Trenton plans to invest $100,000 in the Unique Employment Agency, Lucy misunderstands and thinks Harry is planning to marry the woman for her money.

This is a subpar episode. The script has so many things wrong with it that are completely illogical. Jayne Meadows even went on record to say that Lucille Ball apologized to her during rehearsals because the script was so bad.

Why is Harry faking bankruptcy? Why would Laura be so interested in helping the Agency expand? There are more plot holes here than Swiss cheese.

The last act is nothing more than tired gags with the cast just going through the motions. Lucy throws all of Harry's clothes out the window to prevent him from keeping his business date with Laura (Lucy thinks the two are about to get married); Harry comes out in a towel and shower cap; then a 1940s zoot suit - then an old Army uniform. Lucy and the kids squirt him with seltzer and rip his clothes off. It's all pretty embarrassing and inferior - even for this series.

At the end, Lucy gives one of her famous I LOVE LUCY "spider" expressions: "Eeuuuuuww" which is fitting since I feel that way about the whole lousy episode. 3/10.
