Funny Farce From a Forgettable Season
kgraovac23 December 2023
When a visit from an old flame threatens to end his bachelorhood, Harry bribes Lucy to pose as his pregnant wife.

Lucille Ball was pushing 60 when this installment was filmed so the idea of her as an expectant mother is beyond ludicrous. However, there is a farcical element to this one that other episodes from this season are lacking. That gives it that little "something extra". It pre-dates what THREE'S COMPANY would be doing so well in a few years.

The no-nonsense Gertrude, an Army nurse from Harry's past, is well-played by Jean Willies, who had been known for playing flashier dames back in the day. It is easy to imagine Mary Wickes or Kaye Ballard in this part but Willies done a fine job. Lucy and Harry's scheme actually works out well this time as Gertrude storms out before their ruse falls apart.

The pickles-and-ice-cream bit is my favorite. Especially when Lucy switches from being initially grossed-out to actually enjoying it.

Just suspend disbelief and enjoy it for what it is. 7/10.
