Buck returns with news of the death of Don Sebatian. Everyone assumes Manolito who doesn't want to succeed his father might not have a choice as he resigns himself to the task. But when his father's will is read it states that because Manolito doesn't want to succeed him, Don Sebastion decided to hand the reins to his brother, Domingo. Domingo, however, spends most of his time drinking and gambling in Mexico City. Manolito finds him and brings him to Rancho Montoya where upon arriving, he says he plans to sell the ranch and travel the world. Big John and his men who have been protecting the ranch leave along with Victoria for the High Chaparral. Manolito stays behind to see if he can convince his uncle to take his responsibilities seriously. Unknown to everyone the lawyer Nervo is feeding information to the bandit Julio Armendaris who is rustling all the cattle. Don Domingo eventually realizes the ranch will be worthless with no cattle. He has a change of heart in which he uses his charisma to persuade the peons to return to his aide while Manolito convinces Big John to return to help. Working together they discover the treachery and plot an end to it.
