Amanda and Wolf investigate the death of Amanda's friend Charlie's son.
Nick becomes involved in the murder investigation of a Federally-funded scientist through Amanda who knew the young man's father (Charlie) as a CIA agent 30 years ago. They find that the NSC is also responsible for killing the other scientists involved in the same project and become targets themselves during the investigation. The motive behind the killings becomes clear after they find a tin of seeds that Charlie identifies as genetically modified grain that will act as a contraceptive to the Third World countries it's given to in the guise of charitable aid. They attempt to defang the NSC agents by releasing the seeds and the story to a local reporter. When the agent in charge of the killings is acquitted, Charlie gains justice for his son while committing "suicide by cop".
