The stolen station wagon is shown to have traveled some distance on level ground at the top of the hill before coming to the end of the road, which would place it out of line of sight from the bottom of the hill. When Matthews pulls up at the bottom of the hill, the station wagon is visible from there. In the following scene, Matthews drives a similar distance once at the top of the hill to get to the station wagon. The wagon was moved back to the top of the hill for the scene where Matthews saw it, then moved again to it's original location.
The thieves use a 1957 Ford panel truck on their job. One one cut, it changes into a 1956 Ford panel truck, then back again to a 1957.
Even in the 1950s, if a business was held up and the proprietor shot, "in serious condition", he would quickly be transported to the nearest hospital. Instead, he somehow ends up on his living room sofa being treated by his wife.
As Mrs. Carlisle is talking to Garner's Accomplice in her car after driving him to the panel truck Garner is standing next to the drivers door, mere inches from her, and with a revolver pointed at her head. Yet until Garner speaks she has no idea anyone is there. A person would have to be completely without any peripheral vision and have some significant loss of hearing in order to not be able to detect the presence of another human being approaching the vehicle and being that close to her.
The tire the 2 credit card thieves retrieved from the panel truck to change on the car does have a wheel.
One constant is that when there's trouble you tell the operator to call the Highway Patrol. The gas station operator's wife messed up the line and asked the operator for the Police. Of course she is connected to the Highway Patrol anyway.
When Matthews hangs up the telephone in Susan Haden's living room, the scene switches to Garner driving the panel truck in open country. As the truck comes around the curve, the shadow of film crew equipment is clearly seen on the roadway, at the bottom left corner of the screen.
After they rob Mrs. Carlisle, the thieves stop to change a tire on her car so as to allow them to appear to need new tires. They produce an unmounted (not on a wheel) worn tire from the back of the truck and then are seen beginning to change one of the good tires for the worn one. The problem is that they do not have any tools to dismount the good tire from the wheel and then mount the bad tire. As such, their scheme using the worn tire could not have been completed.
About 9 minutes in Mathews asks to "repeat the ABP," instead of APB - all points bulletin.
