Furillo (an excellent Daniel J. Travanti) deals with the fact that he killed his first man. Marty Nichols gets gunned down by the sniper. Davenport (well played by Veronica Hamel) defends the Rutledge family against their abusive father (a frightening portrayal by Don Blakely).
Furillo's guilt over shooting his first man and Officer Robin's (impressive work from Lisa Sutton) fear about the sniper are both well handled. The issue with the rat infestation provides a few good laughs. The plot about the Rutledge family shows how hard it can be for the law to effectively handle an unstable domestic situation and reaches a heartbreaking tragic conclusion. Fay (a fabulously fiery Barbara Bosson) has a hilarious scene in which she tells off a pimp. Moreover, there are stand-out guest contributions from Joe Pantoliano as wormy hoodlum Sonny, Tom Everett as rattled witness Jaeger, and George Wyner as no-nonsense district attorney Bernstein.
