It's always complicated
Woodyanders1 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
LaRue (a nicely smarmy Kiel Martin) takes an unhealthy interest in a group of young cheerleaders. This storyline delivers a few good laughs.

Calletano (a fine Rene Enriquez) stands up to Chief Daniels (a sublimely slimy Jon Cypher) on the behalf of the Latin-American Coalition after an innocent Spanish-speaking man is shot. It's nice to see Calletano stand up to Daniels for a righteous cause and thus proves to be a satisfying final appearance for Calletano on the show.

Bates (solid Betty Thomas) finds out that Flaherty (affable Robert Clohessy) and Russo (foxy Megan Gallagher) are seeing each other. This storyline makes the valid point that things get complicated and one's sense of professionalism is undermined whenever two officers become romantically involved.

Buntz (the fantastic Dennis Franz) attends an award ceremony with McBride (well played by Lindsay Crouse). McBride has a lovely and touching scene in which she talks to the son of a slain officer.

Goldblume (sturdy Joe Spano) searches for snitch Williams (a spot-on intense portrayal by Keith Amos). This one culminates in a strong heart to heart conversation between Goldblume and Furillo (the always terrific Daniel J. Travanti) in which Furillo tells Goldblume he needs to start focusing on his job more.

Renko (a very funny Charles Haid) suspects that Daryl Ann (adorable Deborah Richter) is cheating on him. In a pleasingly ironic twist, it's Renko who winds up hooking up with another woman.

Belker (essayed with trademark growly gusto by Bruce Weitz) goes undercover to bust an illegal credit card operation. This concludes on a startling note with Belker being shot.

Here and There
Hitchcoc6 August 2021
We begin in the big room with a group of cheerleaders having had their van fired upon. LaRue, who has a lot in common with a male dog in heat, begins to interview them one by one. Renko has a fit when Daryl Ann, who has created a cookie business, tell him she is going on an overnight trip with her associate. He is utterly irrational and profoundly jealous. The guy who was victimized by Norman and Henry reappears. And Ray now leads an independent group that looks into the treatment Hispanics. Much to Chief Daniels' chagrin.
