Lisa Blount rocks!
Woodyanders23 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Lisa Blount was a lovely, talented, and charismatic actress who died much too soon at the tragically young age of 53 on October 25, 2010. Probably best known for her role in "An Officer and a Gentleman," Lisa also popped up in such nifty films as "Dead & Buried," "Prince of Darkness," and "Blind Fury." Blount gives a winningly spunky performance in a nice starring part as Miranda, a sweet singer who along with her musician partner Sean (a solid turn by John Cavell) desperately wants to make it big in the rock music business. Miranda creates a sexy new image for herself in order to achieve the fame and success that she desires. However, Miranda winds up paying an extremely heavy spiritual price for said sexy new image. Director Briant Grant and writers Henry Bean and Leora Barish neatly craft an engrossing and entertaining morality tale on how compromising one's integrity can come at the cost of one's soul and really pull out all the enjoyably odd and off the wall stops for a wacky conclusion that ventures unexpectedly into full-bore supernatural territory. Blount completely struts her sizzling stuff in this episode: Her slutty make-over is a trashy hoot and it's a real treat to see Blount gleefully vamp it up in some flashy rock video. While Blount clearly dominates the proceedings with her fine acting, she nonetheless receives amusing support from Keith Gordey as smarmy record label executive Robbie Sharman and William Samples as hotshot music video director Scott. Moreover, the gaudy'n'glittery evocation of the glitzy 80's rock scene is an absolute gnarly blast, with Thomas Burstyn's garish visuals giving everything an appropriately slick and sparkling look and the music proving to be pretty darn catchy in an admittedly cheesy generic Top 20 pop radio sort of way. Highly recommended viewing for Lisa Blount fans.
