- Hogan nixes a mission to destroy a synthetic fuel plant because the caper is too risky...but he is overruled - and forced to participate in the scheme by the ploy's mastermind, a strong-willed determined female scientist.
- At the start, Newkirk and Schultz are in the barracks playing cards, with other prisoners watching. This seems to be just to keep Schultz busy. In Hogan's office, Hogan tells Carter and LeBeau that they have orders to blow up a laboratory, and that a civilian doctor is in command. The doctor should be arriving shortly. Hogan quickly goes out in to the main room of the barracks, and tries to get Schultz to leave; Schultz says that he will not leave until he wins. Hogan asks what card he needs; Schultz tells him, and Hogan grabs the card off of Newkirk's forehead. Schultz then leaves. Kinchloe then comes out of the tunnel with Dr. Suzanne Lachey, who is to be in charge of the plan. LeBeau recognizes the name, talks to her for a few phrases in French, and says that she is a famous scientist in France.
Newkirk and Carter are seen in blackout makeup coming in through the tree stump tunnel entrance. Downstairs, they show Hogan and others the layout the lab, including the fence, land mines, and booby traps. Le Beau has to translate what Newkirk and Carter say to Dr. Lachey. She then tells Hogan and the others that she was captured, escaped, and hiding in the Underground or a year. Hogan does not know how to get into the lab; Dr. Lachey does. She gets herself captured, and let the Germans talk her into working in the lab. Hogan does not like the idea, so he calls the mission off. Dr. Lachey says that she will do it alone. Hogan says that if she wants to commit suicide, he will not stand in the way. Hogan has LeBeau take her to a nearby farm where the prisoners do some work to make extra money; they will get the Germans to find her there.
The next day, Hogan, Schultz, and others are at the farm doing cleaning work. Kinch suddenly comes out of the barn so that he gets Schultz's attention. Schultz wants to know what is going on; he opens the door, finds Dr. Lachey, and at first wants to arrest her. Hogan suggests that Schultz arrest her and get the credit for the capture; now, Schultz wants to let her go because he does not want to have trouble. Just then, Klink arrives in a motorcycle sidecar, and asks what is going on. Schultz tries to explain; Hogan does a better job. Klink says to take her to his office.
At the office, Klink asks her what she was doing, to help Hogan and others escape? She tells Klink her name, and says that she was hiding there, and asked the prisoners for food. When Hogan hears the name Lachey, he asks her if she is Dr. Lachey, the research chemist. She says yes. Hogan says that Klink will call Berlin and get a medal for finding her. Klink calls Berlin about this.
The next day, General Burkhalter comes to STALAG 13, and talks to Dr; Lachey. He tells her that she will work on synthetic fuel. Hogan, Newkirk, Carter, Kinch, and LeBeau are in Hogan's office listening on the coffee pot. She says that she will not cooperate. Burkhalter says that he will turn her over to the Gestapo; at that point, she agrees to help. Hogan is seen as complimenting her on her timing. Klink calls Schultz, and tells him that Dr. Lachey is to go to a comfortable barracks, Barracks 9. Hogan says that they have a tunnel to Barracks 9. Burkhalter says that they will take her to the lab and bring her back every day. After some conversation with Klink, Burkhalter smiles, saying that he is thinking about being without Klink.
Later, Klink comes to Barracks 9 and talks with Dr. Lachey. He says that the Gestapo called, and from now on, she will be living at the lab with the other technicians. She is to pack her things and prepare to leave; he then walks out. Hogan, in the tunnel nearby, overhears the conversation. Lachey says that the lab is waiting to be destroyed. She says that in order to get information, she had to give them some information that would make the work easier. She says that she must go through with it. She then kisses Hogan. Hogan says that this is the first time that he has been kissed by his commanding officer.
Back in the barracks, Hogan tells the men about the plan. On the road, the truck going to the lab stops where some 'gestapo' have captured British commandos. It is actually Hogan, Carter, and LeBeau in Gestapo uniforms, where Carter 'captured' Newkirk dressed as a commando. Hogan pulls a pistol on the Gestapo captain, and convinces him at gunpoint to get them into the lab. They get back in the truck and go to the lab. At the gate Hogan identifies himself as Major Hoganschmidt; the Gestapo captain vouches for him. They get into the lab compound, and go to the laboratory building. Crickets are heard chirping, indicating that this is at night. Hogan, Carter, LeBeau, Lachey, and the Gestapo captain go into the building, walk down a hall, and go into a room with lab equipment and filing cabinets. Lachey says that the cabinets must be destroyed. She sits down, unzips her dress hem, and takes explosives out of the lining. A lab technician comes out, and she introduces him to Major Hoganschmidt. After talking a bit, he leaves. Carter plants the explosives, set for 5 minutes. They all leave, including the Gestapo captain.
They get into the truck, Carter driving, Hogan in the front seat, and the others in the back. They get to the gate to be let out. Just as they get there, Gestapo Lieutenant Martin, the officer at the gate, gets a phone call from the guards in the lab building. He tries to stop them; Hogan tells Carter to go, and he rams through the fence gate. The Germans start shooting at the truck. After they get clear, Hogan tells Carter to pull over a bit in case the lab wants to pass them. Carter says that won't happen, as the lab will go straight up.
At the end, in Klink's office, Hogan comes in with complaints for Klink. He mentions that he has not seen Dr. Lachey for a while. Klink says that she will not be coming back. Hogan asks if that has anything to do with the explosion. Klink asks some questions. He sees lipstick on Hogan's face. Hogan says that they are rehearsing a play. Klink dismisses Hogan.
