- The Heroes enlist the daughter of a German general to get to photograph his secret plans.
- At the start, General von Behler and his aide are in the General's office talking about Operation Hannibal. The general's daughter Hedy is also there. Hedy takes her leave. She goes on a bicycle to a work site where Hogan and his men are working on repairing a railroad. Hogan tells Schultz that it needs to look nice when our bombers bomb them. Hedy arrives at the scene on a bike, with a basket up front full of things. Schultz at first says that civilians can not fraternize with the prisoners. Hedy says that she is not exactly a civilian; she is General von Behler's daughter. Schultz says that the rules stand anyway. Hedy starts passing out goodies to the prisoners; Schultz also wants one, but LeBeau takes it. LeBeau gets a sandwich with a message in it. He gives the message to Hogan just as he is caught with the sandwich. He gets put on report.
In Klink's office, LeBeau has a 'trial' with Hogan as his defense counsel, Hilda taking notes, and Klink as prosecutor, judge, and jury. The charge is stealing a sandwich; Schultz says that it is a 'cheese' sandwich. Klink finds LeBeau guilty and sentences him to 5 days in the cooler, but on full rations.
Later, Hogan reads the message regarding an anti-Nazi agent. Hogan asks Newkirk and Carter to get information in order for him to make contact, and asks for a German uniform, made up to look like the camp adjutant, Captain Gruber. Hogan knows that General von Behler will be calling asking about Gruber, so he has Newkirk set up a switchboard to intercept the calls, and have Carter impersonate Klink to give von Behler information.
Hogan dresses up as Gruber and goes to the general's house to meet the agent, who turns out to be von Behler's daughter Hedy. Hogan goes to the house and is let in by Hedy. He gives the password 'I am the phoenix', and she gives the countersign 'I rise in flames'. General von Behler then comes in, and Hogan introduces himself as Captain Felix Gruber, adjutant at STALAG 13. General von Behler asks if Klink is still running the place, and seems to know Klink. Hogan says that he is proud to serve under Klink. Von Behler does think much of Klink, and commends 'Gruber' for supporting his superior. General von Behler leaves to make a phone call, while Hogan talks with Hedy. She is anti-Nazi and wants to help end the war; she says that there are people in Germany who would rather lose the war and get rid of Hitler than win the war and keep Hitler around. Hogan tells her that they are the ones that put Hitler where he is, that he didn't get there by answering a want ad. She tells Hogan about 'Operation Hannibal', a plan to have guerrilla warfare in Germany as the war is ending. Hogan thinks that could prolong the war.
As they are talking, General von Behler calls STALAG 13. Newkirk intercepts the call and says that Klink can not be disturbed. After the general identifies himself, Newkirk says that he will disturb Klink, and puts Carter on the line who impersonates Klink. Von Behler asks 'Klink' about his adjutant, and pretends that he forgets the name. Carter (as Klink) mentions Captain Gruber, and gives von Behler some information on him; after Carter gets too long-winded, von Behler hangs up as he has the information that he wanted.
Hedy tells Hogan that plans to Operation Hannibal are in a safe, and she has the combination. She will give Hogan the combination on her conditions, that the General not be harmed, and that the plans are photographed and not removed. She says that she will do what it takes to protect her father. There will be a party Saturday, and the work must be done then. Hogan asks about guards; Hedy says that there are guards at the front, and one by the general's office. Hogan says no wonder Germany is losing the war; all of the men are here on guard duty and not at the eastern front. Hogan agrees with Hedy's terms; he says that he knows where he stands, or dies.
Back at camp, Hogan shows Carter and Newkirk floor plans for the house. Newkirk wants to know how they are going to break into the safe. Hogan gives Carter the combination to the safe, and tells him to memorize it and eat it. Carter starts to eat it before reading it, and he is stopped and told to memorize it first. Hogan then gets LeBeau out of the cooler, and tells him he has another job for him. LeBeau has a 5-day beard on him; having not shaven while he was in there.
The next day, Hogan (as Gruber) goes to a party at the von Behler house, and meets Hedy. Hogan and Hedy go upstairs to a back room, which is the General's study, where the plans are kept in a safe. Hedy gets him past the guard at the door. Hogan opens the balcony doors, goes onto the balcony, and puts string attached to a rope over the balcony railing for Carter and LeBeau to climb. Hedy then brings the guard (a corporal) on the level below the balcony dinner and something to drink. While he is eating, LeBeau grabs the string that pulls the rope down, and Carter and LeBeau climb up the rope to the balcony. Meanwhile, Klink goes to the party with Schultz driving. Schultz parks the car in an available spot. When Klink starts to walk in, Schultz follows; Klink asks him what he is doing. Schultz says he is going as Klink's aide; it might be good if it appeared that Klink had an aide. Klink looks at Schultz and says that they might feel sorry for him. Klink starts to go in and Schultz starts to follow. Schultz says that he will be walking two steps behind and to his left. Klink says that he will stay there, until he gets to the buffet table, so he tells Schultz to stay at the car.
As Carter and LeBeau get to the balcony, General von Behler goes into the back room, lights a cigar, and goes out onto the balcony for a smoke. He does not stay there long because it is chilly. He goes back in, closes the balcony door, locks the door, and closes the curtains. Just then, Hedy goes in the back room and says she will take care of it; she unlocks the door so the men can get in.
Next, Klink is seen at the buffet table, getting some food and drink, when he sees Hogan dressed as Gruber; he thinks that he looks familiar, so he starts to go see him. He runs into a couple of people on the way, including General von Behler, and chats a bit before the general leaves for a drink. Hogan leaves before Klink gets to him. While this is going on, Carter finishes photographing the plans, and LeBeau puts them back in the safe. Hogan then goes outside to where the guard is, and makes him stand at attention, facing away from where Carter and LeBeau will be coming down the rope. He gigs the guard for drinking on duty, as they come down the rope and disappear. He takes a glass of wine from the guard and puts it on a nearby ledge. Hogan then says he ordinarily would put the guard on report, but he will overlook it this time because he does not want to cause a ruckus with the general.
Hogan then meets Carter and LeBeau at a car. He asks them if they got it done. They say yes, and duck down behind the window in the back seat, as Hedy comes out and talks to Hogan. Klink walks by on his way out, so Hedy gives Hogan a big hug, hiding his face. Hogan tells Hedy that the pictures will be in London tomorrow. Hogan asks Hedy 'Is it possible to send an American to the eastern front?' Hogan and Hedy they embrace and kiss. Carter and LeBeau are in the car, and Hogan as Gruber drives back to camp.
At the end, Klink comes back to camp in his car; Gruber comes out of the office to greet him. Klink tells Gruber that he saw him at the party with fraulein Hedy. Gruber says that he knows nothing about this. Klink wants Gruber to invite him to future parties, especially with a general. Just then, Hogan comes to them with a requisition for medical supplies. Klink says that he will discuss this more with Gruber tomorrow, and dismisses him. Klink says that Hogan has been at STALAG 13 for 2 years, and asks Hogan if Klink really knows him. Hogan says that he has no secrets; when he hears one, he passes it along.
