On the TV special, "A User's Guide to Home Improvement," Tim Allen admitted that during the scene where Tim and Jill argue, Patricia Richardson sounded so angry, yelling at him that he thought she was legitimately mad at him and that he was disturbed by her outburst. After the take ended, Allen asked Richardson if she was okay, and, as Allen later recollected, she got right into his face and calmly said, "Yes, Tim, I'm okay. It's called 'acting.'"
At the beginning of this season, the opening theme has been modified to the version that viewers are most familiar with, namely the heavier guitar riff plus a flute-driven number. Overall, this music occurs until Season 6.
The title comes from the pledge by candidate George Bush during the 1988 Presidential campaign: "Read my lips. No new taxes!"
