Could this penguin be the slutty pumpkin?
jamariana23 July 2017
I now realise that there isn't too much to review on an episode-by- episode basis. And since I'm the only person who's going to enjoy reading these reviews in the future, I'll simplify my reviewing method (for certain titles) to a list of what I liked and what I didn't.

What I liked: The idea of mixing Kahlua and root beer, Marshall as Cher and his take on Ewoks, Barney's costume introduction, Barney's idea of having two costumes, the devil and the angel on Ted's shoulders, and Robin and Ted's conversation on the rooftop at the end.

What I didn't like: Lilly's Halloween costume, Robin's boyfriend trying to feed her, most of the rooftop party, and Robin getting territorial over ice cream.

The Barnacle.

Warning: Spoilers
On Halloween, Marshall and Lilly are obsessed with winning a costume contest, Robin brings along her new boyfriend Mike for a double date. During the date, Robin gets annoyed at Mike's constant need to share, Mike gets annoyed that Robin isn't into doing "couple" things. After Lilly tells Robin to mellow out and share something with Mike, Robin can't keep it up and the dinner isn't a very pleasant experience for either one of them. Meanwhile, Ted is obsessed with a woman he met at a party on the roof of his apartment, who was dressed as a "slutty" pumpkin. Ted lost her number years ago and has wanted to see her ever since. Barney offers to take Ted to a Victoria Secret model party, but Ted wants to try to find the girl. One thing I realized is that most Mikes are idiots. I'm a guy and even I know this. They're either stupid or full of themselves. Obviously this isn't true in all cases, but it seems to be with a lot of guys named Mike. I digress... Ted is such a schmuck, but a lovable one. I wish more guys had his moral fiber and the ability to be true to themselves. Marshall and Lilly's parrot & Jack Sparrow costumes were awesome as well. This ending of this episode features Ted and Robin's on and off interest with one another. I personally feel they should have been together, not Robin & Barney. I also felt this episode has a good message. It's always nice to adapt and try other things with a person you dig, regardless of how set in your ways you are. This is a classic episode filled with laughs and funny situations, all the creative things I love about this show

9/10

P.S...What is up with Marshall's love for ewoks from Star Wars? They were the worst part about Return of The Jedi in my opinion

The One With Halloween...

Warning: Spoilers
I really love this episode. I love themed episodes, so this one being Halloween, was automatically going to be really enjoyable for me. But this episode is more enjoyable than I thought it would be. It's very different, and just really awesome.

In this episode, it's Halloween, and everyone's getting ready for a fun night of dressing up. Ted, as usual, dresses in a Hanging Chad (if that's how you spell it) costume, because that's what he does every year. He goes up to the rooftop party in his apartment building, and waits for the Slutty Pumpkin. A girl he met years ago, who really connected with him, and who's number he never got. Now he goes there every year, hoping she'll be there as well. Robin, and her new boyfriend go on a double date with Lily, and Marshall, which ended up being a hilarious situation. And Barney is upset that Ted didn't want to go to a Victoria's Secret party. Poor Barney.

First appearance of: The Slutty Pumpkin (sort of).

Best part of the episode: The double date.

Overall, I give this episode an 8 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Awesome.

The Slutty Pumpkin (#1.6)

Warning: Spoilers
Halloween episodes are always fun because of costumes, and in How I met Your Mother it isn't different. I loved the costumes of Marshall and Lily, not just the ones of this year but their memories about wearing Cher and Sonny. Marshall was just too hilarious as Cher.

The other fun part is Barney with all his costumes hitting on the hottest girl but trying to get a new first impression and also messing with Ted by wearing a penguin costume and getting the Kahlua cocktail. The scene where he is dressed up as a devil and another guy as an angel telling Ted what to do is also pretty funny, especially when the angel asks for some weed.

We see more of Robin's commitment problems when she is dumped by a guy for not wanting to do couple stuff. Her munching on that brownie they were sharing was a good one.

Barney Stinson Shows You How To Do Halloween
slightlymad2212 November 2014
After two less than stellar episodes, with Neil Patrick Harris's Barney Stinson pushed in to the background, "How I Met Your Mother" returns to form and it's all down to one man. Neil Patrick Harris, take a now sir.

Plot In A Paragraph: On Halloween 2005 Barney wants to take Ted with him to a Victoria Secret's Party, but Ted heads for a party on the roof of his apartment house, where a few years ago met a beautiful woman, which is just called the "slutty pumpkin". Whose number he lost so he waits for her every year at this party. Robin and her new boyfriend Mike meet for a Double Date with Lily and Marshall, who are eager to win the fancy dress costume contest.

Watching Barney Stinson (an unbelievably fun Neil Patrick Harris) try and get the prettiest girl at the party's number is fantastic and it makes this episode as much fun as it is. Cobie Smulders was a problem for me in this episode, her acting seemed really off and uncomfortable. Josh Radnor was OK as Ted while the brilliant Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan are as excellent as always.
