Don't ignore me
mitchrmp19 November 2014
What do you do when your husband reads the newspaper and totally ignores you every morning? Well, first you try to dress up in a way that he has to notice you, then you can try to be like one of the guys. When that turns out to be a disaster. the only thing you can do is...

The whole thing is so ridiculous, it's comical. Only Lucy can pull off something like this. I think any other actress would make this look stupid.

The early shows do a really good job at developing the show's personality. Between Lucy and Ricky and Lucy and Ethel, the show is just classic...

Darling? Sugar Dear?

Warning: Spoilers
Only the second episode that aired and it already has memorable scenes especially the last part.

1. Lucy dressed in sparkling black dress to get Ricky's attention, I love when she leans on the kitchen table with her legs up.

2. Lucy joins Ricky and Fred's poker game. Fred does that grumpy sound to her then she does it back, funny stuff. Her passing the cards look as those they're flying.

3. The apartment transformed to Cuba style and Lucy lipsings a Spanish number to make him feel at home. Save the best for last. Her committment to lip singing even when the record scratched it went speed sqicky voice then slow deep voice, Lucy performed both, so funny. And my favorite part is Ethel mumbles the background singing part out of nowhere between her and Ricky, it sounded bizarre. However, it works Ethel made me laugh.

There's a reason husbands don't play poker with their wives.

Warning: Spoilers
Gin rummy, maybe. Wist, possibly. But poker? No way. Or at least not the way Lucy plays. Lucy is feeling neglected in this episode with Ricky's face in the newspaper rather than giving her attention in the morning, and she keeps attempting different scientifically proven ways of changing that. But of course, for Lucy they fail and often hysterically.

If there's the premise of Lucy trying to be glamorous in the morning, that's an infant failure and so is Lucy's attempt to intervene in a poker game. She turns their apartment into a mini Havana complete with stereotypical Latin American cliches that are a combination of other cultures and even gets to imitate the non-Cuban Carmen Miranda. Silly plot but lots of laughs.

During the poker game, Lucy calls her two queens 'sisters.' When Fred looks at his dealt hand he tells Lucy "You can tell your two Andrews Sisters not to wait up for LaVerne."

Superb acting but lackluster story.

The comical genius that is Lucille Ball made this otherwise absurd storyline incredibly funny! I was slightly annoyed by certain scenes that seemed rather forced, but Lucy's attempt at portraying a Cuban woman is absolutely amazing! There's almost an element of racial satire that I think is under appreciated in this episode.

oh so this is where white people get it from!
qorianka-addams1827 May 2013
As an NYC born and raised Hispanic woman I've come across so many people being confused as to what "Hispanic" means, what it "makes me" and why it annoys me when Im referred to as "Spanish". But one thing I always hear from White people, in person or Television is "oh So what part of Mexico are you from?". Do most white people really Think all Latinos are Mexican? If so, THIS episode is probably where they got it From. I know its The 50s and people were more ignorant back Then, but You'd Think with all advancements we have now...they'd know better! I was appalled at the ignorance in The decor of The apartment and the music choice. I can only hope Mr. Arnaz said Something whether They listened to him or not.

That decor is 100% Mexican. The clothing, the music choice everything. Whats the problem? Ricky is CUBAN!! Ugh! Now do you understand the Title of This post? Sigh. Just because both countries Speak Spanish Doesn't mean they Are The Same!

Mind you I'm neither Mexican or Cuban but i hope I'm not The only one bothered by This...
