Yes. What boys?

I like this episode mainly for Ethel's one liners. It is clique husband and wife storyline. The business the guy has selling the clothes back to the husbands is smart deal. Poor wives though but what can you do?

Wives vs husbands episode

Warning: Spoilers
It's not one of the better ones but it has some pretty funny moments. The women don't like the men's wardrobe. A fairly typical plot it's also is something of a time capsule as it seems sometimes men wore suits to the movies ! I don't know why a compromise couldn't be achieved in this one. The clothes Ricky and Fred were scruffy but a suit?!

Lucy's idea of what to tell the guys on what happened to their clothes after Lucy and Ethel sell them to a man who runs a second hand clothing store ( a thrift shop basically) is not one of Lucy's better ideas even though she thinks it's her best made up story.

There is quite a bit of humor in this one but I always think the smartest one in this one is the second hand store man . He buys clothes from the wives but cleans up selling them back to the husbands ! While Ricky and Lucy keep trying to outdo each other and get even with one another without getting anywhere . Fred and Ethel just going along.

Old Clothes and New Ideas

Ricky is upset at his publicist for his lack of recent publicity and calls him to complain. Getting ready to attend the movies to see the newest Marilyn Monroe movie ("How to Marry a Millionaire"?), Lucy is appalled that Ricky refuses to change out of his raggedy around-the-house clothes into something nice. Finally she browbeats into changing but when Fred and Ethel show up to join, Fred is dressed even worse than Ricky was, which makes a defiant Ricky change back into his own comfortable rags. They go off to the movies but (off camera) the girls refuse to walk with them and boys play up their hobo image with opening garbage cans and the like.

Ricky's publicist manages to wrangle a "Best Dressed" title for Ricky the next day and a smirking Ricky wants to surprise Lucy and Ethel with his title, inviting them to come to the club for a night out unaware that Ricky and Fred will be honored for their fashion sense. a devious Lucy however has her own secrets for the night.

This episode is funny but one of the more improbable plots for the show. We've never seen Ricky as a slob before on the show, why is he suddenly now one around the house? And being an entertainer he certainly is not likely to have gone to the movies dressed in old, torn clothes even if "Marilyn won't mind". The cast is great as always and Vivian Vance has a terrific bit when Lucy asks "How would you like to eat out tonight with the boys?" "Sure!" Ethel replies "What boys?"
