The One Everyone Forgets
proudgeekmom24 March 2018
This episode ranks in the top 10 of the best of I Love Lucy, but is always forgotten when the Best Of are packaged for sale. Why? The moving bed, Ricky's expressions, Lucy's line, "I wonder if this bed stops in Chicago?" and the bed itself lend itself to 5 minutes of sheer comedy genius! "You do that every night?" "Yea, but it took years of practice."

One of my favorites!

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episodes for many reasons. Joining the gang on a long trip is a lot a fun, and the scenery along the road is amazing - I have a feeling they shot the exterior road scene (as Lucy exits the car to check out Aunt Sally's) is Route 66, perhaps near Upland, CA. Very visual! The whole Aunt Sally's gag never fails to crack me up - "Must be that shed over there!" I also like the scene where they all feel so comfortable together than it takes a long moment for them to realize they can't get undressed for bed in the same room - kind of a neat way of showing the familiarity between the married couples that transcends even their friendship. By far in my top three 'Lucys'!

In my Top Ten Lucy Shows 1950s

Warning: Spoilers
This episode of I Love Lucy is funny from beginning to end. It moves like a luxury car through the forest. On their way to Hollywood, the Ricardos and Mertzes stop accidentally at a flea bag hotel. The food is not too good, but the room is even worse. Unfortunately the hotel is next to a train track. Needless to say it's not easy to get a good night's sleep. The crooked hotel owner has the last word, and it's a good one! Please just watch it. Recommended.

An Historic Episode Of Television
DButcher6 December 2006
Contrary to the popular misconception that Mike and Carol Brady of the Brady Bunch were the first married couple to share a bed, this episode is the first episode in the history of series television in which a married couple shares a bed. The "motel" setting freed the convention of the censors, allowing the first realistic depiction of a married couple. On another note, while this is a one-episode occurrence, the first married couple on television to share a bed is still not the Brady family, but is in fact Herman and Lilly Munster.

Nonetheless, this episode provides a fascinating insight into the conventions of television in the 1950s. Ironically, a motel setting is in many ways more suggestive than a home setting. It is also interesting to note that, while the Ricardos may be the first married couple to share a bed together, Fred and Ethel Mertz also share a bed together after the Ricardos.

Just as funny as when I first saw it

I used to love watching I Love Lucy and specifically remember this episode. I laughed so hard. It does not come on re-runs as often as I'd like. I might have to buy this season. I think the foursome was hitting their stride!

Top 5 episode

Warning: Spoilers
This episode never leaves my top five favorite episodes of ILL.

The basic plot is everyone is tired and hungry as they are driving across the country to Hollywood but Ricky insist on getting more mileage before they stop. There are many funny bits in this episode but Aunt Sally's signs are a classic.

By the time even Ricky is hungry there are no good places to eat at despite what he said. They get a stale old cheese sandwich instead of one of the mouthwatering dinners on the menu ( the owner doesn't have any of it) They head out for Cincinnati but Lucy drives them in a circle and they end up back at the same place. They end up all four in the same dilapidated cabin and try to make the best of it . What takes place is one hilarious thing after another including Ethel putting Fred to bed! Even their escape from the place isn't smooth! One of the best episodes of all time from any television series.

Aunt Sally

Definitely one of my favorites. It's not the one people bring up when asked classic episodes or maybe it is. I hope I'm wrong. From start to finish this is the best. I always get excited when it comes on. There's something fantastical about the episode. Aunt Sally making too many signs to the dry cheese sandwich to the cabin with the bed moving its great.

Ohio never looked so bad, but funny

A classic episode with a lot of laughs. The foursome have to settle for a cabin in "Lower Slobovia" which couldn't be any closer to a freight train track unless it was sitting on the tracks itself. Stale cheese sandwiches, horrible sleeping arrangements and a stolen steering wheel all add up to terrible first stop but hysterical dialogue between the group. Ethel coming out of the bathroom with toothpaste over her eye and cheeks, Fred mumbling the "baby dear" song upon leaving the rundown cafe and then stating he felt like he was "breaking out of prison" when the search lights and sirens go off when they try to sneak out without paying in the middle of the night. I guess there's no way of adding to the "goofs" section but clearly this couldn't have (realistically) been their first stop. They left Manhattan at approximately 6pm (as per Fred's comment when they were finally starting on their way). From Manhattan to near Cincinnati would take over 9 1/2 hours on the current highways you'd use. For them to arrive anywhere near Cincinnati for the first stop would mean an arrival time at around 4:00 am without any stops!
