What a mess!
rgxdzrybr11 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Ricky decides an exhausted Lucy should have a maid. He wants her to handle it like a business but she immediately finds herself with a rather obnoxious and bossy maid! The woman Mrs . Porter eats everything like leftover roast beef and makes Lucy a peanut butter on rye bread ( not sure what that would taste like?!) . Mrs. Porter pushes Lucy around and Lucy is uncharacteristically meek . The maid doesn't even help out with the baby.

Unable to fire the maid Lucy and Ethel concoct a plan to make her quit. With Fred's help they mess up the so much that after Mrs. Porter cleans up they will tell her they do it everyday. Wow it's a mess! Hilarious! But here's the thing Ricky already fired the woman! Now cleaning up is Lucy's job!

Funny episode

Warning: Spoilers
I don't have a problem with the basic premise . Ricky couldn't stay home and supervise the maid . If Lucy doesn't feel comfortable with the maid it's no good. There is no story without some kind of conflict. It's actually not that unusual to have a maid at least in fiction ( I don't know but there are probably such situations in the real world.) to set their own terms The Jefferson's had Florence, Charlie Harper had Berta ( Two and a Half Men ) on Newhart they had Stephanie. Even Hazel ran things on her show. It's a trope it just doesn't work so much for Lucy. Granted Mrs. Porter was particularly unsuited to be a maid and had no personal affection for her employer Lucy's charms don't work in Mrs Porter she's too indifferent . The answer was actually pretty simple they could have just had someone come in and help Lucy with the cleaning and laundry a couple of times a week.

Still as the episode is I like . Not my favorite but a good one . Funny enough.

Lucy, Ethel and Fred messing up the place to make sure the maid quit was especially funny.

Who's the boss Lucy or The Maid?
angelahptrio10 September 2020
I get the twist the maid is more demanding, but the humor is missing. I understand what the point was but I don't know why the maid thinks she's in charge. Yes, Lucy is not boss material but the maid seems to dislike the job then why be one? She doesn't serve Lucy or take her demands seriously when she's suppose to. She eats off the Ricardos food without permission that's not right and feeds Lucy peanut butter sandwiches. Come on. That's my issue with the episode but the best part is Lucy, Ethel and Fred tear up the apartment so the maid will want to quit . . . little did they know Ricky already fired her. Lucy was right at the beginning Ricky should've hired a maid have him be the authority.
