It's a moo moo

One of the best episodes in my opinion purely for women from mars stunt. Lucy and Ethel pretending to be aliens is a treat. And of course Ricky and Fred get back at them dressed as aliens. Lucy and Ethel freak out and Lucy does a delay scream that's really funny.

Fun , underrated episode!

Warning: Spoilers
Lucy and Ethel accidentally pledge five hundred dollars each! It's to a charity by a snooty school chum of Lucy''s. They look at the billboard ads and have various choices ( including boxing a kangaroo) .

The one the choose requires them to dress up as women from Mars and climb to the top of the Empire State Building. It's publicity stunt for a new movie. The do so and cause quite a buzz .It's all over the city and Fred panics he's going up to the roof with rifle and wearing a soldier's hat ! Ricky is pretty chill and thinks little Ricky might want to see a flying saucer. Lucy and Ethel return home and Ricky overhears everything.

Later two men from Mars get into the apartment and take the money. Lucy and Ethel scream and panic but realize they can't tell anyone without giving away their secret. Later at dinner the women find the money in their napkins and realize it was Ricky and Fred!

Personally I would rather box the kangaroo .

One thing leads to another

Warning: Spoilers
Lucy's old school chum Cynthia Harcourt ( Mary Jane Croft in an earlier role) is in town and wants a charity donation from Lucy . This leads to a misunderstanding about the amount and with Ethel offering a donation as well it leads the two to the women from Mars stunt.

So many things I enjoy about this one . A rare opener with Ricky and Lucy reading in bed like any other couple except it's not just any other couple!

Lucy dealing with her old high society school mate. Ricky trying to gently bring Lucy down to earth.

Fred thinking they have been invaded by martians and ready for them! Ricky taking it for what it's worth.

Lucy and Ethel being scared by " martians " and Lucy's extra funny scream. Then finding out who the martians really are and getting back at them! At least they still got the needed money!

"If You Divide Everybody Up into Boys and Girls, We're Girls!"

LUCY IS ENVIOUS just misses being one of the all-time great episodes of I LOVE LUCY but it sure comes close. Lucy's old high school friend Cynthia is spearheading a charity drive. Cynthia was born rich and married rich and Lucy has given her the impression the Ricardos are similarly well off. When Cynthia suggests Lucy give "five" for the charity drive, Lucy is surprised at the low figure and really agrees, as does best friend Ethel, neither aware that Cynthia meant $500 not five bucks. And so the girls need to come up with the grand fast and there just so happens to be an ad in BILLBOARD seeking "brave girls"...

The classic moments here are Lucy and Ethel as "women from Mars" but there's also fun in seeing them getting a dose of their own medicine. Mary Jane Croft guest stars as Cynthia, this was the first of seven guest shots on ILL, the final five of them being reoccurring character, Betty Ramsey (Ms. Croft, of course, went on to fill in Vivian Vance's shoes as Lucy's best friend in Ball's later series THE LUCY SHOW and HERE'S LUCY.) Flub buffs will want to watch the end of the final segment closely as Lucy loses grasp of a napkin accidentally but quickly recovers it, definitely not in the script! You'll get a lot of laughs out of this one, whether you're a "moo moo" or not.

Women From Mars
einsteinfile25 June 2016
It's the mid-1950s and the flying saucer craze was everywhere. TV, films, comic books ... it seemed as if wherever you turned there was some sort of monster from outer space making an appearance. The prime time evening news even spent a few nights reporting on the fleet of UFOs filmed flying over Washington, D.C. in 1952.

It was no small wonder that flying saucers would show up on America's most popular TV sitcom, "I Love Lucy", in the episode, "Lucy Is Envious". A rich school mate of Lucy's, Cynthia Harcourt, comes calling, collecting for charity. Lucy and Ethel are stunned to learn that their pledges of "five", means five hundred dollars - each! Not willing to send Cynthia a check for five bucks, as she has the snobbish Cynthia believing that Ricky is quite well-off, Lucy & Ethel (who has also pledged 'five") try to figure out how to earn some quick cash. They spy an ad in Billboard magazine for a publicity stunt that'll promote a film, "Women From Mars". It has them dressing up as Martians that have landed on the Empire State Building. The pay is $500 apiece. The next thing you know, Lucy and Ethel are climbing by the guard rail on the top of the, then, world's tallest building. It's a great and funny episode as the duo carry off the stunt perfectly ... almost!

There is one small 'goof'. When they are on the observation deck, dressed as Martians, Lucy & Ethel each have ray guns tucked in their waistbands. Ethel's, you can see, is not so secure. As she's climbing over the rail, the scene changes and, all of a sudden, only Lucy is holding a ray gun, Ethel's is gone. If you look sharp, you can see Ethel's space pistol in the background on the ground. It evidently dropped out when she was climbing over the rail!
