I AM INNOCENT

The language translations are definitely what everybody remembers the most, but the episode overall is one classic scene after another. The painter scamming Lucy, Lucy at the restaurant pretending to be a French citizen ordering snail, pretending she doesn't know Fred and Ethel, trying to talk the police into calling her husband Ricky, and the end all of them buying the same paining thinking they all bought an original. Yes, the French, German, Spanish, English translation scene is the best writing in comedy show. Hands down. But the scenes leading up to it is as great. Bob Caroll Jr. The writer dressed as a French man nod to Lucy at the table, nice little wink, wink.

Clever

This is one of the most clever scripts! Lucy wants to explore Paris on her own and runs to various problems but initally thinks she taking Paris by storm. Her first mistake is getting taken by a counterfeiter that leads ot trouble for Fred and Ethel too as Lucy shares some of it with them. One thing I never caught onto -until today when watching this one is that while Lucy and Fred and Ethel and Riky all buy the same paint from the same scam artist the scammer kind of got some justice as Lucy and the Mertze's would have paid him with the counterfeit money !

There is a really funny scene snails when Lucy realizes she has orderd snails for lunch! Then there is the clever set up at the French jail when Lucy needs several characters speaking various laungauges to translate the proceedings for her. One of the most standout episodes that is kind of underrated.

Pass the ketchup

As a kid I loved ( still love ) this episode but in particular how they translated through the various languages the charges against Lucy . I took it so literally when I was younger. I just hoped of I was in trouble in another country I would have the right people to translate for me! The writers were really creative .

I think Lucy wanting to experience Paris like that is pretty cool and understandable. That said she kind of got payback for pretending not to know the Mertz's!

Everything that goes on from the counterfeit money to getting snails and the phony paintings rounds all out for quite the experience.

Watch for her trying to make the best of her lunch of snails!

I was in a food market in Spain and I bought some items. When I approached the cashier she told me that she only takes debit or credit cards. I was proud that I understood her Spanish. Then she asked me for something else. I didn't understand. Luckily my daughter came to the rescue and said, "The cashier wants to see your I.D.." Oh we Americans fall way short when it comes to second languages. After leaving the British Isle The Ricardo's and The Mertz's arrive in the City of Lights, Paris. Lucy immediately wants the Parisian experience, to buy rare art, eat snails with ketchup in a small street side cafe. The trouble is that the locals Parigots can spot a tourist a kilometer away. The naivete of Lucy permeates with Parisian escrocs (Con men) waiting to take advantage at every turn. Phony artist refusing to sell their works only to have the price go up for the uncultured Americans. Lucy has to exchange her British pounds into French Francs as a nosy French man over hears Lucy's dilemma . The con man offers her a better exchange rate and Lucy excepts. She receives what she thinks is a bargain but instead a wad of counterfeit bills. When Lucy pays her bill and gives the cash to the Garcon, the waiter screams in French that the bills are counterfeit! Lucy not having an inkling to what was said is swiftly sent of to a Paris jail. What ensues is priceless. If you have a love of languages you'll love this episode of culture clash!
