The bet

Warning: Spoilers
To win the bet so she can get her $49.50 hat (which must have been equal to $250 in today's dollars back then!), Lucy cheats by trying to make Ricky lose his temper. In the process she ruins his nice white dress coat with tomato juice and bends one of his golf clubs to get him mad.

I'm sure those two things cost as much if not more than her $49.50 hat. So Ricky is right how she has a complete careless disregard for his money. I hope he took the cost of the coat and golf club out of her allowance money afterwards.

Hats and tempers

I like a typical Lucy and Ricky outdoing each other. He wins the bet but Lucy tries to scheme her to win by cheating. As always she did not get away with it and got what's coming to her.

Meh

Warning: Spoilers
This one feels like they were running out of ideas. Fortunately it wasn't but season three is so uneven. Amazing episodes like Redecorating the Mertz's Appearance, Too Many Crooks and Home Movies to uninspired efforts like this one and Sentimental Anniversary or Ricky's Old Girlfriend. Good episodes with weak or bad endings like Ricky Minds The Baby, Equal Rights and Hawaiian Vacation.

Underrated efforts like Lucy is Envious, The Golf Game and The Sublease.

The show finally fully acknowledges Ricky's bad temper but it just feels like it's a weaker effort. Ricky's temper vs Lucy's spendthrift ways should be a classic it's not.
