Lucy's scalp treatment
angelahptrio1 August 2020
A quintessential Ricky and Lucy storyline. The best part is the scalp treatment Lucy goes for it and Ricky's reactions is comedy gold. It's actually a great Ricky storyline men probably relate and Fred thinking he's got plenty hair. I think Ricky and Fred stole the show on this one.

Men can be just as vain as women.

Warning: Spoilers
When Lucy innocently points out the fact that Ricky's hair is starting to receive, he takes it way too serious and shows insecurity about it, wearing a hat at breakfast. This gets in some good bald jokes in at Fred's expense, and basically just points out the fact that men don't show vanity until they think that they are losing their hair. Lucy visits the drug store, dealing with the creepy Milton Parsons (a John Carradine look-alike) who thinks that she's looking for hair restorer for herself (telling Lucy that her real hair looks like a cheap wig), and Lucy goes crazy with purchasing the most bizarre hair restoring products out there. She also has a party of bald men come over to the house with Fred joins with a bad toupee, with William Frawley looking like he did in the movie "Chicken Every Sunday". Funny episode, especially when it focuses on Lucy's "torture system".

This is a hard episode to analyze...

Such a perfect mixture of good and bad! Sophisticated humor and corny dialogue! As the episode suggests, Ricky thinks he's going bald and vanity sets in. Unfortunately, the plot doesn't get any deeper than that, but the ending is funny!! Even if it isn't very believable.

Sheldon Cooper's grandpa as I live and breathe!

As I was watching, Mr. Thurlow reminded me so very much of Stuart from Big Bang Theory. It kept nagging at me so I finally looked it up, thinking he might have been a relative of Kevin Sussman. (Y'all see it too, don't you?) You could have knocked me over with a feather when I found out who he really is: Jim Parson's grandfather, Milton Parsons. How ironic is that? Now that I know who he is, it makes the episode of even more special. And I guarantee you that during his decades on stage, everyone reading this has seen him many times.

I loved so much about this episode. Normally Lucy does more physical comedy than Ricky but this episode gave him a chance to shine and show his true comedic talent. Every bit that he did was superb and so funny I nearly fell off my chair!

But I have to say Fred Mertz's toupee stole the show.
