A so-so episode in a usually fabulous series!

This isn't a bad episode, and is a better depiction than the pilot for the series which has the same plot. For some reason, though, the comedy is again too FORCED and RUSHED and it falls a bit flat. The ending scenes are priceless!! They certainly same the episode from being a total flop, with its rather boring and unoriginal opening dialogue.

Introducing "Babba Lu" to the series.

Warning: Spoilers
For those watching the series on DVD in chronological order, seeing the six episode several hours after seeing the original pilot shows how far is the series Advanced as it began to excel in the ratings. Once again, Lucy wants to be in the show even though she already has in an earlier episode and she has the perfect opportunity when Ricky's clown has to back out. Virtually the same minus the cheap look, with a different set for the opening and Fred (unfortunately no Ethel) and a few other details thrown in, this is a nice reworking of the enjoyable TV audition for thevshpw. The original audience saw this as fresh because the original audition didn't air on TV until decades later so they were probably unaware that this was a recycled plot.

Polished version of the lost pilot

Warning: Spoilers
I understand you have to perfect your Production and I am sure people enjoy this one more than the rough cut version. Personally, I felt the lost rough version is more effective to me. I don't know why. This one is a better structure episode. I still enjoy it. I think it's because I love the imperfections of the rough cut you see Desi laugh, but in this he doesn't. That's me though. If others like this one better because it's more polished, I understand. I guess my issue is the clown - no offense to the clown on this episode - I enjoy the original one better.
