Black eyes are funny?
rgxdzrybr4 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's not that it lacks humor and I doubt they meant any harm but it's a bit cringy all the same.

Ricky would never hit Lucy ? Not in the face I am sure but the writing is on shaky ground on this one.

Fred being such a peacemaker? Not sure I buy that he would go that far but he often did try to settle Ricky down.

Ethel practically drooling over the violent pretend story Lucy tells seems a little out of character . The whole scene is tasteless. The book Lucy and Ricky were reading didn't sound like a good suspense or murder mystery but basically junk .

This is one of those episodes I think they needed a better explanation for the basic misunderstanding.

The second half though is pretty funny . I am not sure how realistic it is to think Fred would actually spend money on flowers but he was always inclined to talk Ricky out of revenge( at times).

The whole thing with Fred signing his name to the card and hiding and Lucy and Ethel's reactions were funny.

Black eyes

As a kid, I used to laugh at this and as an adult I still find it innocent. People have issues today only because there's humor involving black eyes and somehow are led to believe violence is funny. The show is not making fun of violence it's misunderstandings that's all. All four end up with black eyes. Remember it's a TV show no one was harmed during the making. Plus, it's not touching on abusive relationships as some might expect it would, no. Ricky never hit Lucy. Calm down.
