Meet Lillian and Marion.
mark.waltz18 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
We get to see what appears to be the baby in a blanket (complete with silly gurgling going on), but Lucy still isn't seen outside of the flashback to her club meeting where we get to meet Lillian Appleby and Marion Strong, long before Lucy told her to lay that egg. Lucy is upset when she's bypassed for every club office that opens, and somehow managed to get Lillian to nominate her for president to run against Ethel. Every other office only has one candidate, and Lucy has an excuse for not wanting it when she's not even mentioned as a candidate. "Nertz to Mertz" is Lucy's campaign slogan, while Ethel's is "Vote for a redhead, vote for a deadhead", with a little addition at the bottom that is even funnier.

So it's war between the two best friends, but the women in this club aren't exactly as loyal to each other as they pretend, starting with Lucy gossiping about Lillian. We then learn how Lucy got Lillian to nominate her in the first place. Both Fred and Ricky have their qualms about their wives being president, having earlier expressed their feelings about the gossiping that goes on. The vote comes down to a new member of the club, Ruth Knickerbocker, and this leads to the appearance of the delightful Ida Moore, the most adorable little old lady in screen history. Without saying a word, she steals the scene from the singing Ricky, that delightful gleam in her eye combined with a gorgeous smile making her one of the best cameos in "I Love Lucy" history.

Lucy vs Ethel
kellielulu4 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The two friends battle to be the President of their club . Lucy expects to be nominated for all the various positions but isn't nominated for anything. Meanwhile Lillian Appleby ( later changed to Caroline) is about to reveal some embarrassing gossip about Marion Strong to Lucy and Ethel when Marion walks in followed by the other club members. The first thing they do is vote to add another member of the club ( Ruth Knickerbocker ( who isn't at the meeting) she is voted in unanimously. The club then start the nominating process and Lillian is stunned that Marion nominates her as club Secretary and Lillian in turn nominated Marion for Vice President. It's unclear if Marion is sincere or basically trying to bribe Lillian to keep quiet.

The outgoing President wants Ethel as the next President but Lucy can't stand it she doesn't want to be left out. She in turn bribes Lillian ( with a cashmere sweater) who nominates Lucy.

The campaigning begins and it doesn't stay friendly for long. Lucy and Lillian get together and try to figure out who's voting for who. Marion it turns out is voting for Ethel. In fact the club is evenly split and new member Ruth Knickerbocker is the deciding vote. Lucy also has to hand over a matching bag ( to the cashmere sweater) to Lillian.

Ethel and Lucy start putting friendly pressure on Ruth. Ricky and Fred decide to to the same but not to help their wives but to convince Ruth to vote against their own wives.

Fred brings the lady to the club and both men try to persuade her. Just then Lucy and Ethel arrived to celebrate it was a tie they are co Presidents! Ruth as it turns out has been home sick in bed from all the rich food Lucy and Ethel feed her all week. It's actually Ruth's mother in law Ricky and Fred are trying to convince!

Lucy's so competitive!

Warning: Spoilers
Lucy doesn't really come across that well for much of the episode. She's sure she will be nominated for every office in their club The Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts Club ( I never did know what good it was for) . She's stunned when no one nominates her for anything and she snipes at every opportunity as Ethel compliments the nominees. She immediately bribes Caroline to nominate her to run against Ethel for President of the club. The campaign of course gets vicious and Fred and Ricky do their best to influence the newest member to not vote for their own wives! ( the rest are evenly divided between Ethel and Lucy) . Fred brings the lady to the club and both he and Ricky think they are making progress but it's all for naught. The two reunited best friends appear at the club to celebrate as the election was a tie and they are co - presidents . Turns out the new club member is sick at home from all the rich food Lucy and Ethel fed her all week trying to get her vote ! The lady the guys are trying to influence is the new member's mother in law! She was just out for the fun!
