Who gets to define what gossip is?

Warning: Spoilers
The women make a bet with Ricky and Fred that they can stop gossiping at the price of becoming the other person's servant. Ricky and Fred make up a juicy piece of gossip which they reveal to the women during the night under the guise of a dream. This leads to a situation involving the victim of the gossip, having earlier follow the scene where Lucy tells the men and Ethel some gossip through pantomime and even the men become involved in it. This is a very funny episode with a bit of a moral, but somehow you know that none of the principles have really learned any lesson and will continue to gossip throughout the remainder of the show.

Pantomime gossip

I love Lucy's pantomime as a way to promise Ricky not to gossip but she gossips by letting Ethel figure it out. From start to finish this is an underrated episode it's another girls vs. boys bet. Technically the boys already broke the rules because making up a story is gossip. Ricky argues if the story was true then it's gossip but it wasn't they made it up the wives were gossiping. Well, that's actually not true regardless the story was true or not they were gossiping about a neighbor. But the girls got their revenge so it's all good.

A joke gone wrong!

Hilarious! Lucy's voiceless gossip scene, the boys telling the girls gossip in their sleep, them believing it and the best part of it all...the ending! When al is revealed to be true. Lucy not letting Ethel in on it is icing. Lucy wins again, as always.

Turn about is fair play

Warning: Spoilers
Another battle of the sexes this time over gossip. Ricky males a valid point about how harmful it can be but from that point on it's all out comedy.

Lucy acting out the gossip she's heard for Ethel because she promises she won't say a word! Ricky and Fred even join in the guessing !

The guys claiming men don't really gossip much then go about gossiping about the band out at the club! This leads to a contest women vs men . Whoever gossips first has to serve the winners breakfast in bed for a month. Days go by and no break . The guys seem worried and cook up some gossip about neighbor Grace Foster and the milkman! The talk in their sleep so the women hear it . Lucy and Ethel try not to talk but end up sharing all the details. Fred and Ricky speak for the cellar through the furnace as the conscience of the women.

Lucy " Ethel you have the loudest conscience I ever heard ! " Then Ricky speaks . Lucy " oh fine my conscience has an accent! " Lucy though conclude she and Ethel won the bet because the as she said about Fred and Ricky " if they weren't asleep they were awake !" Ethel " well that's a monumental conclusion."

Back and forth between the men and women lead to Lucy and Ethel giving the guys breakfast in bed as Fred joins Ricky. Just then the milkman burst in and needs help! Mr Foster is after him with a gun! Maybe the story is true and after Lucy calms the man down and he leaves the guys have to fix the women a whole new breakfast.

The big twist though is Lucy set this up with her neighbor and the milkman! She didn't even tell Ethel to get a real reaction to their bursting in. Well the guys tried to cheat first! One of the best endings of the series.

Underrated classic

Warning: Spoilers
Gossip is one of the shows recurring themes but here it is the central and actually only plot.

Promising Ricky she won't say a word about the gossip she has been listening to on the phone Lucy ends up doing a very funny pantomime for Ethel and even Ricky and Fred get caught up in it!

After disagreeing about who gossips more the foursome wager a bet and Fred and Ricky try to put one over on Ethel and Lucy but of course Lucy out schemes them and even bring in the men Ricky and Fred use in their phony gossip they cooked up. I love it! One of Lucy's best ideas.

By now the show is really hitting its stride and they have found the formula that works best which is a lot of women vs men plots and a lot of the four of them. Ethel and Fred were vital to the show's success.
