Talk about being locked into matrimony.

Warning: Spoilers
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz turn into acrobats in this very funny episode where a practical joke really backfires, putting Ricky into a precarious predicament. Thinking about a pair of handcuffs that she got from Fred are trick handcuffs at Fred earlier did a magic act with, Lucy puts on handcuffs that are actually from the Civil War and impossible to unlock. Will Wright, the locksmith, spends more time talking about his Show Business ambitions then trying to get Ricky and Lucy free and as a result, Ricky must go on to a TV show with Lucy's arm pretending to be his right hand.

This hysterical gag was later memorably recreated on the Richard Burton / Elizabeth Taylor episode of "Here's Lucy" where Lucy got Liz's diamond ring stuck on her hand and had to pretend to be ole' velvet eyes hand as well. If there is ever any doubt that Lucy could be funny on her own without the use of a script, it is this because she knows exactly what to do to get laughs, and it makes Ricky look like he has the best manicure with perfectly groomed nails. Classic situation comedy rarely gets better than this, and usually when it was it was on this show.

Comedy 101

This is definitely an underrated episode yet it has influenced many shows in the future. Name a comedy show that has not done a handcuff bit? Maybe one or two. The handcuffs was copied over and over through many different shows. It might as well be in Comedy 101 textbook. If there is, good. I know there has to be books about it. One of my favorite I love Lucy episodes. Ricky offering Lucy 5 bucks if she can get them untangled is always funny.
