This In The Heat Of The Night episode has both Carroll O'Connor and Denise
Nicholas harassed and insulted by a couple of redneck louts who work for used
car dealer Charles Hallahan. When Geoffrey Thorne tries to arrest them Hallahan
offers a bribe. When that doesn't work he flips the script and accuses Sweet
of soliciting a bribe.
Of course the whole thing has to be investigated leaving Sweet in limbo. Hallahan offers to take a polygraph which he passes. But in his profession he pretty much lies on spec.
Of course he's a dirty guy and of course the whole Sparta Police Department backs up Chief Gillespie and Officer Sweet.
Sometimes you just can't get good help and f they're not good than at least be discreet.
