Inside the Actor's Studio: Paul Newman (1994)

This first entry in the series features the great Paul Newman who was the President of the studio at this time. I think when viewing this episode it's important to know that the show got a lot better as time went along and there's sadly a lot of stuff missing from this thing. I'm sure in 1994 it was great getting to see Newman do an interview and it's still fun today for his fans but at the same time I can't help but watch and wonder why so many films are being overlooked. We get a quick story about the making of SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES me and Newman gives us the reason why many said he was doing a Brando impersonation. THE LONG HOT SUMMER is discussed with the main focus being Orson Welles. THE LEFT HANDED GUN gets a mention, THE SILVER CHALICE gets made fun of and of course we get some talk about BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID and how Newman thought he was playing the Sundance Kid. There's even a really funny joke about a radio interview where INDECENT PROPOSAL 2 was thrown his way. Newman shares a few thoughts on acting, television and direction as well. As you can tell, there are plenty of classic movies that don't get talked about including COOL HAND Luke and THE STING. Newman does share a good story on working with Martin Scorsese. Again, it's good to hear anything Newman has to say but I have to think that everyone involved, if they could change it, would have offered up many more questions.
