Mrs. Prentiss takes command
This second part of the two part Ironside episode that served as a pilot for the Amy Prentiss series and it has Jessica Walter taking command of the Detective Division of the San Francisco Police. A lot of the old boys are upset of course and she's got to handle a potential mass exodus of personnel as well as a top level narcotics import investigation that the Ironside squad is involved with as well.
Walter has also inherited a bad boy cop in William Shatner from the first part who has a shooting investigation on his plate. He's unorthodox in his methods and isn't sure he wants her, but she wants him.
Shatner as a cop is far from the boy scout like T.J. Hooker whom he later portrayed in the title role of his own cop series. Still he acquits himself well in his role.
Sad that the Amy Prentiss series did not have a long run. Jessica Walter does a fine job in a part where she insists on being addressed as Mrs. Prentiss.
