Well Written & Well Done

This episode involves the trial of a mobster who has a jury hung at 11-1 for conviction. Ironside, who presumably was behind his arrest, is there at trial watching everyone carefully. He suspects the holdout has been bribed. In the 24 hours given to him by the judge, he and his team spring into action to investigate all the juror's backgrounds. The mobster tries to mislead him as to the holdout, but Ironside doesn't buy it. He also manages to crack the mobster's code. I thought this was an excellent, well-written, well-crafted episode. Many reviewers complain about the writing of today's current shows, and this one tends to vindicate their unhappiness with a lot of the lazy writing we now see. Listed as the writers of this episode are both the creator of the show, Collier Young, and the prolific Stephen J. Cannell. The Director is John Florea, who directed 6 other Ironside episodes.

Burr does his usual stellar job - which I didn't fully appreciate when I first watched the show at a young age. Also now, with his graying hair and blue eyes, he appears more attractive, much more so than the dark, black-&-white Perry Mason, as well as all the villains of his earlier career. Andrew Duggan does a fine job as a rare honest defense attorney, as does Bruce Kirby as the highly twitchy witness-testifying-under-duress. There's also a neighbor of one of the juror's, complete with curlers in her hair, although I have to say it was only ever on TV that I saw any woman wearing curlers outdoors where anyone could see them!
