- George Jefferson: [Reading the eulogy he wrote] "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to bid fine farewell to Wendell Thomas."
- Florence Johnston: Very good and not too long.
- [Florence gets up]
- George Jefferson: Sit down.
- [Florence sits back down and George continues reading]
- George Jefferson: "Wendell ate from the tree of happiness and enjoyed the fruits of life. But suddenly his fruits rotted on the vine."
- Florence Johnston: I'm moved.
- [Florence stands up again]
- George Jefferson: Wait, there's more.
- [Florence sits down again, and George continues reading]
- George Jefferson: "God loaned us Wendell, but he became an overdue book in the library of humanity. Why was Wendell called back? I don't know. Maybe God just had some reading to do."
- [Florence is laughing]
- George Jefferson: Look, Florence, this is not supposed to be funny, it's supposed to be sad.
- Florence Johnston: Oh, it's more than sad.
- [Florence gets up again]
- Florence Johnston: It's pathetic.
