Another ledge episode
LaverneandShirleysucks26 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As queasy as I get with these ledge episodes, I still love them. For some reason I really feel they're 10 stories up and when Laverne picks her foot up off the ledge I get scared for her lol. I know it's silly of me.

The story in this episode was really good. Laverne is dating upstairs neighbor Sonny who's a stunt man. When she learns that he's going to be doing dangerous stunts like falling off a trapeze and entering a tiger cage at the circus, memories of Randy the fireman who died on the job come back to her. She understandably begins to push him away emotionally, not wanting to go through that kind of horrible experience again with someone she loves.

When he notices the sudden change in Laverne, he asks Shirley about it and she confides to him what happened with Randy. He then decides to change careers for a safer one pushing life insurance and working out of an office. It was a very nice thing to do for her, but of course he's not as happy in that career as he was doing stunts. Laverne soon finds out the reason why he changed careers and it makes her feel terrible that he's now in a miserable career because of her and she immediately goes to his office to get him back to doing what his heart wants to do.

I really like this episode. There was a good mix of comedy and poignancy, and I love the ledge scene where I laughed out loud twice. Once when the first pigeon dropped out of nowhere onto Laverne's head and then when we see Shirley appear out on the ledge to bring her in after Laverne & Sonny have already gone back inside. I also like how they used the Randy experience in her romance with Sonny. I wasn't crazy about the Randy experience when it happened, but it works really well here as a part of Laverne's relationship with Sonny. After a bunch of episodes I wasn't too fond of, this one I really liked and I hope it's a sign that they're back "on the track now".

Lenny & Squiggy thankfully appear for a couple of minutes before leaving. Small doses of them and i'm a happy viewer.

Sonny and Laverne

Warning: Spoilers
I adore Laverne and Sonny as a couple. I think he might be her longest love interest. The scene out the window is another reminder of I love Lucy homage. And there's a similarity both Laverne and Lucy are surrounded by pigeons, and both get one hanging on their heads.
