Shaken Baby, Disturbed Nanny
bkoganbing19 March 2013
Amy Carlson happens to be the riding ADA one night when a baby is brought into the hospital and dies. The autopsy shows a fractured skull, an old fractured arm injury, and evidence that the baby was shaken. Carlson takes this one real personal and she persuades colleague Bebe Neuwirth and Fred Dalton Thompson to go for murder 2, depraved indifference.

Neuwirth and Carlson charge nanny Elizabeth Moss with the crime, but they've got an uphill battle. The nanny agency retains a good high priced attorney Bruce Davison for Moss's defense. But the best ally she has in that courtroom is Judge Aasif Mandvi who Carlson had crossed paths with before when he was a defense attorney. He can't shake the bias.

I've not seen a judge eviscerate a case like this since Milo O'Shea did it to Paul Newman in The Verdict. And Mandvi goes O'Shea one step better which you'll have to see the episode for.

And this is one really well done story.
