It is revealed that the boys attend the same grammar school on Grant Avenue. Beaver is in the 2nd grade and Wally is in the 8th.
The first episode of "Leave It to Beaver" aired on Oct. 4, 1957, the same day that the first-ever man-made satellite, "Sputnik 1", was launched into Earth orbit by the USSR. The launching of Sputnik 1 was the main catalyst which ignited the "Space Race" between the Soviet Union and the United States.
In this first "official" episode, Hugh Beaumont permanently took over the role of Ward Cleaver, which had been played by Max Showalter in the pilot episode. Tony Dow permanently took over the role of Wally Cleaver, which had been played by Paul Sullivan in the original pilot
Diane Brewster, who plays teacher Miss Canfield, begins a role she would have for thirty-one years, thanks to the series and its revivals. However, she was also known worldwide as Helen Kimble, seen as a corpse in the opening credits of "The Fugitive" (1963-67) and in flashbacks throughout that series. Three episodes of "The Fugitive" featured her acting in flashback scenes, including the series finale, which stood as the most-watched program in US history for thirteen years.
This was the third episode to be filmed, but the first to be aired (Production Code 903A).
