Metropolis is in love with Superman. He gets the key to the city, women bid thousands of dollars to have a date with him, and his face is plastered...well, pretty much everywhere it can be. (It reminds me of KISS, having their likenesses on all sorts of merchandise). With this newfound celebrity status, Clark admits to his parents that he's starting to feel smothered. You can't blame the guy. Even a super hero needs some quiet time.
When Superman isn't being adored by the masses, he is helping Lois and Clark solve the mystery of an invisible man. The notion sounds silly on the surface, but it isn't quite the sort of 'Freak of the Week' story that Smallville's first season was famous (or infamous) for.
