This offering contains some very noteworthy scenes. The very beginning where a man dies because of faulty equipment sets the story in motion. It seems that substandard products are being dumped on developing nations, and it comes at the risk of endangering those populations. I learned a lot watching this episode, and it didn't surprise me that certain products like contraceptives were not allowed in the U.S market but sold overseas with the U.S. government's knowledge, and in some cases, assistance. The more I think about it, this is a real gutsy episode. It really does challenge the way our government looks the other way when it comes to turning a profit overseas. Those kinds of things are still happening years later. One of my favorite scenes in this episode is when Mrs. Pynchon stops drinking her coffee because she says that the coffee beans have probably been sprayed with unsafe pesticides from U.S. companies that are not allowed to be used in this country. That moment really illustrates, through humor, the global food chain and how domestic and foreign policies should work in tandem.
