A Very Mean, Selfish Lucy in This One
kgraovac13 October 2023
Even though a trusted neighborhood man has already offered to accompany Jerry on a Father-Son getaway, Lucy schemes to be "one of the guys" so she can go on the trip instead. Mr. Mooney and four other men share the cabin--where Lucy ends up beating them at poker---so they retaliate by siccing a friendly bear on her to get even.

This is a mediocre episode but it gains one star for at least NOT having Lucy appear in male drag. That was a tired plot device that I always hated (THAT and her shaky little old lady routine). Though her demeanor doesn't convey it, Lucy is quite cruel in the opening scene by lying to Mr. Carter, saying that Jerry can't stand him and is unhappy about having him as a chaperone. It was actually one of the most selfish things she's ever done at someone else's expense.

Jimmy Garrett's face looks spotty in the opening scene, as though he's just had chicken pox or measles. The best moment occurs when Lucy wrestles with a stuck zipper, trapping her in the sleeping bag---she looks like a spastic caterpillar, but it's a very funny bit. The finale features one of those ridiculous "wild animal" scenes, this time with both an actual trained bear, and an actor impersonating one in a bear suit.
