Followed by the "Lucy In London" special

Actually, she did get to London!

The week after this episode aired, CBS aired the one-hour special "Lucy in London" which was conceived as a continuation of this episode. Or maybe it was the other way around -- maybe this episode was conceived to make viewers look forward to next week's special.

I agree, watching the episodes in syndication kind of leaves you hanging, since the special wasn't syndicated along with the rest of the series.

For more information on the October 24, 1966 special "Lucy in London," see IMDb's entry under that title.

Lucy in 'da Skies With Mooney

This episode is basically a re-working of a sketch that Lucy did years before. I remember seeing the original somewhere back in the '90s and that it was in black-and-white but haven't rewatched it so can't say which one is superior.

A rather low-key episode, since most of it takes place on the airplane with Lucy seated next to Mooney. The only really zany bit is in the early airport scene where she climbs onto the conveyor belt to chase after her luggage. The funniest part is on the plane when she ejects Theodore J from his seat by accident.

Pat Priest (Marilyn Munster #2) plays the stewardess and this was filmed a few months after THE MUNSTERS had been canceled.

Not a particularly great episode, but it beats many of the goofier ones in Season 5.

The Problem Is, She Never Gets There!

Warning: Spoilers
Why on Earth come up with a plot of Lucy going to London and then not follow thru with it? Lucy wins the trip in a commercial jingle contest.

First we see her going to British Airways. Wasn't the Lucy show at this time set in California? She isn't flying non-stop to London is she? I assume there would be a stop over before she got there, no doubt that stopover would be in New York.

And then we are given ticket clerks mimicking difficult British accents.

Why are they British if the airport, even tho it is British Airways, is in America? Pat Priest, best known as Marilyn Munster, is one of the flight attendants and she doesn't mimic an English accent.

But oh, that's right, Lucy had to catch another flight that stopped in New York and then she would make her way on to London.

The rest of the episode is Lucy on the plane with, surprise, Mr. Mooney.

Don't ask. It doesn't matter.

The final scene is the plane going to London.

I anticipated there was a continuation to this episode, but the next episode is the two parter of sorts with carol Burnett as Lucy's new roommate and they go to a tropic locale in the second episode.

No more is heard about London.

At best, I would suspect we would have more mimicking of British accents, such as these fellows here did, or like Nancy Kulp did on I Love Lucy, as an English maid, not actual London sites.

It just made for one very odd-watching episode.
