Has a Real I LOVE LUCY Feel To It
kgraovac17 October 2023
This episode has a very I LOVE LUCY feel to it. An early scene has Lucy studying Italian from a book so she can communicate with a rich, handsome Italian played by Cesare Danova. Lucy has rollers in her hair and when Danova shows up unexpectedly, she hides under the sofa while Vivian stalls, not knowing that Lucy has hidden herself. She looks very Ricardo-ish in this scene.

There hasn't been much "language barrier" humor on this series up to this point. The restaurant scene features more of that as Mooney shows up to translate. The appearance of Jay Novello (guest star in ILL's "Lucy's Italian Visitor") also brings to mind the previous series as does the finale which finds Lucy in a vat, although this time she ends up green instead of purple (no grapes in this one).

The dry cleaner scene goes on a little long, but Viv's line about Mooney and the nickels is great, as is the last line Mooney translates in the restaurant, much to Lucy's horror. Lucille Ball performs Lucy Ricardo's famous "WAAAAAAH" at the very end.

The restaurant scene includes a shot of demure-looking Lucy in a pink gown that appears at the very end of the Season 3 opening credits just before the fade-out with a heart frame around it.

At first I didn't think I was going to like this one because it seemed like an I LOVE LUCY retread of sorts, but it's better than expected.
