This is another of those repetitive 'Lucy-Stalks-a-Celebrity-to-Ask-a-Favor' episodes that this show and "Here's Lucy" did ad nauseum. It does have a unique structure in that we don't have to sit through the plotting. Things are already underway as the first scene begins.
Lucy and Viv appear on horseback at Arthur Godfrey's farm to ask him to appear in Danfield's Founder's Day Pageant. The show has a Southern theme and Lucy's appearance as a Southern Belle is much better than when she played Scarlett O'Hara in the 1971 Flip Wilson episode of "Here's Lucy".
If you are not a fan of musicals you likely will find this episode boring. However, Vivian's "Steamboat Bessie" number is not to be missed. In this rare instance, she actually outshines Lucy. This isn't one of my favorites of the season, but worthwhile viewing for Vivian's performance. She didn't get to do these kinds of things as often as her co-star and it's wonderful to see her in the spotlight.
