Lucy's T K O
kgraovac17 November 2023
Lucy acts as personal trainer to an ex-prize fighter so he can get back into the ring and make enough money to buy a flower shop.

Yes, Don Rickles would be the last guy you'd expect to be cast as a "sissy" florist, but this episode goes there.

Not a great offering, but decent enough. It benefits from the fact that Rickles tones it down and does not play in his standard obnoxious manner. Normally when a big-name appeared on this series, they would use their first name with a fake surname. Here, Don's first name is changed so his character is called "Eddie Rickles".

The florist angle allows Mooney a funny joke about poison ivy at the beginning. Lucy adopts a New Yawk accent when talking to Cliff Norton during the sequence at the gym. There is a cute moment when Lucy and Rickles jump rope together in her apartment. The last scene where Mooney gets hit is a refreshing twist on an old trope.

Rickles was 15 years younger than Lucy but they appear to be about the same age here, although she refers to him once as "boy".

Not outstanding, but above average for the season and Rickles' restraint in this one goes a long way.
