Weak Episode For Season 1
kgraovac27 October 2023
The ladies volunteer firefighters have formed a barbershop quartet called The Four Alarms. When one of them drops out, Lucy schemes to replace her. The gals are desperate to make it to the finals in Albany, so hire a vocal coach named Dr, Gitterman (Hans Conried) to bring Lucy up to par.

I have always disliked the firefighter episodes and consider this one an offshoot. It's not as bad as the others though - no stupid routines here about how inept they are or careless damaging of property for cheap laughs.

This is a weak script for Season 1. The best parts are when Lucy does an Elvis impersonation and later when she slyly tries to wrangle a solo - but the other ladies aren't easily fooled and call her on it. Some of the bits in the coaching scene will be reused in Season 2's "Lucy Teaches Ethel Merman to Sing" so at least we have some series continuity there.

Hans Conried guested on all three of Lucy's hit shows, his most famous probably being I LOVE LUCY's English tutor episode. He would reprise his Dr. Gitterman character in the dreadful LUCY SHOW Season 2 opener.
