Timelessly Funny Kitchen Slapstick Comedy
patriciaguth25 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Funny kitchen slapstick episode made better by the addition of future Carol Burnett Show player Harvey Korman as a frazzled kids camp director who thinks he's hired two experienced camp cooks in Lucy and Viv. But little by little via various kitchen mishaps that ruin all the breakfast foods available except the popover batter that he forbid them to bake, the girls prove him oh so wrong. Watch for Lucy's struggle with an oversized batch of frozen popover batter that she decides to thaw out in an old cast iron stove with many orifices where the thawed goo escapes, creating an amazing mess and making the camp director rue the moment he set eyes on the would-be camp cooks.

Mooney's Convertible Is the Best Thing About It
kgraovac10 October 2023
Lucy bemoans the fact that she and Viv cannot afford to let Jerry and Sherman stay at summer camp another 2 weeks. Mr. Mooney drives the ladies up to the camp in his gorgeous red convertible but runs out of gas on the way there. This leads to the episode's best scene where the ladies try to flag down a ride without success. When Mooney asks them to step aside and show them how it's done, flirty Madge Blake stops to pick them up-but Mooney demands the ladies not speak a word of it to his wife Irma.

Harvey Korman plays the camp counselor and since he's short a cook, Lucy volunteers her and Viv's services so the boys cam stay on longer. This leads to the big set piece in the kitchen, but it's not that funny. Eggs are smashed, a huge vat of batter is dropped and makes a big hole in the floor (look for the obvious outline on the floor so that Lucy can hit her mark) and the stove is overflowing with batter as we fade out.

This is an average episode and the chef hats the ladies wear used to make me confuse this with "Lucy Enters a Baking Contest" which is a better installment.
