Beginning with this episode, Lucille Ball sported a new hairstyle (it was called a 'layered artichoke look'). This look would be the basis of what she'd wear throughout the rest of her career.
While shooting in the Mojave desert, the crew had difficulty making one of the cars come to a skidding stop. To complete the scene. Desi Arnaz finally got into the car, himself and performed the stunt perfectly. After receiving applause from the cast and crew, it was discovered the camera had no film in it. An (unbeatably) irate Desi went ballistic whilst the crew became hysterical.
Lucille Ball later said MacMurray was 'fine enough', but she had to work with him on his comic timing, especially in the telephone booth scene.
A part of this episode's plot is based upon Fred MacMurray being on a tight budget. In reality, Mr McMurray was known to be very frugal (though he says, in this episode he's on a tight budget, 'due to his business manager - his wife' (June Haver) - this is not known to be factual).
During the exterior prospecting scene, the actors actually 'fall asleep' on a Hollywood sound stage and wakes up on location in the Nevada desert.
