While originally Gus Stemple is played by Paul Dooley, in later seasons, the role would be played four times by Carroll O'Connor, who starred in All in the Family (1971), to which the title "Paul in the Family" is a reference. The actor who played Gus three times between Dooley and O'Connor, John Karlen also appeared as a guest on All in the Family (1971).
The song Jamie and Lisa sang together is the following extract of "Sisters" (first recorded by Rosemary Clooney with Betty Clooney in 1954): Sisters, sisters, There were never such devoted sisters. Never had to have a chaperone, no sir. I'm here to keep my eye on her. Caring, sharing every little thing that we are wearing. When a certain gentleman arrived from Rome, she wore the dress and I stayed home Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister, and Lord help the sister that comes between me and my man.
