In Try to Remember (1982), when Magnum meets Lt. Tanaka, Magnum is indisposed after tricking a confession out of two murderers, which Tanaka was aware of. Tanaka removes Magnum's Tigers Cap and puts it on noting he is a Tigers fan. He then walks away without giving it back, chuckling, the implication being the hat for his silence. This is the hat that Magnum receives at the end.
The title refers to the Detroit Tigers baseball team, which is the favorite team of both Thomas Magnum and Lt. Tanaka. Both of them frequently wore Tigers baseball caps, with Tanaka's hat being given to Magnum.
