A serious episode
mwatt-431 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Magnum is vengeful in this episode. He is angry because he was tricked then sustains a serious injury via a gunshot. No laconic look into the camera lens in this episode.

There is more than usual gunplay in this instalment. At one point, Magnum is seen discharging several cartridges from his iconic 1911 pistol, emptying the magazine, then inserting another.

Western actor Clu Gulager is only seen in the pivotal act of the episode.

Rick, TC, and Higgins seem to be in more of the scenes directly supporting Magnum's cases. beginning with a few episodes back. Also, there are fewer scenes with Magnum in the Pacific Ocean doing his morning workout.

It appears that Magnum is getting older in these episodes and his reputation as a p. i. has improved.

It appears that the tone of this show has changed to a more serious one and Magnum has evolved from the carefree beach bum to a more mature individual.

I remember years ago that it was during the 6th year of the series, the Nielsen rating began to tumble a bit.

This episode was what I felt to have been one of the better ones.

Magnum muses

Warning: Spoilers
This is a very special episode of Magnum, P. I., a series I've been watching over the past few months. When Magnum first screened back in the 80s, I watched maybe only a handful of episodes. But it's great to catch up and write reviews here!

Anyway, here Magnum is almost fatally shot and is kind of in between life and death and has visions. It's kind of spooky and really represents the sixth season mid-life stage of the series, culminating in the cross-over with Murder, She Wrote (!) in season 7.

Marta Kober stars as Mary Elizabeth and Mie Hunt stars as Kim Nakamura Wolf.

I recommend Way of the Stalking Horse.

He Hit a Friend of Mine

Warning: Spoilers
For me, the most touching and profound scene in this episode was Ice Pick considering Magnum a friend. The last time Thomas met him (along with TC), Ice Pick had emphatically stated, "And you two aren't my friends!" (episode with the death of Rick's sister).

Outside of the "Michelle" episodes, this one is one of my favorites. It sees Magnum being used by a hitman to take out a target, nearly leaving Magnum for dead in the process.

There have been moments when we've seen Magnum become obsessed, and despite the series on the whole being relatively light, it was nice to occasionally explore the "darker" side of Magnum; that he could be very capable to wanting simple revenge. At first, he tries to justify it as a pursuit of justice, but even Magnum knows better by the end.

This episode is almost a precursor--a giimpse into Magnum's darker side--before the ultimate revenge episode in the final season: Unfinished Business (easily one of the most powerful and unforgettable episodes of the entire series!
